Love through the 23mm
CONTEMPORARY
23mm F1.4 DC DN
Special Impression
by Jean Noir

We laugh
We cry
We love
We fight
This is where it all starts.
Where life begins and love never ends.

Family.
Unadorned moments and thus honest and authentic emotions.
Chaos.
Things don't always work out the way you planned, or the way you think they should.
We have learned that things go wrong and will never be the same again.
But we grow, everyday.
This is our safe place.
This is home.
If I know what love is,
It is because of you.
This is us.

Capturing the imperfect, no-filter, raw moments of kids in family photography can be a fun and rewarding experience. However, it is also quite challenging. Children are naturally full of energy, curiosity, and emotion, which create great photographic moments. Pure photography that captures the imperfect moments of the family can be a beautiful and authentic way to create a visual record of their childhood. Instead of aiming for posed and perfect images, these types of photos seek to capture the real, imperfect moments of our family life.
To capture these types of moments, it's important to be patient, observant, and flexible. Allow the children to play, explore, and interact with each other naturally, without trying to pose or direct them too much. Especially for our kids this always helps to create a more natural and candid atmosphere that is visible in the photos. Shooting on the SIGMA 23mm F1.4 DC DN | Contemporary helps to capture a lot of scenery while using one lens and being flexible. It's also important to be prepared for unexpected moments and to be ready to capture them quickly. Have your camera ready and be prepared to take the shot when the perfect moment arises. This might be a child's expression of wonder as they discover something new, a moment of playfulness and laughter, or a tender moment of sibling affection.
These types of images are meant to be emotionally raw (straight-out-of-camera JPG, from our technical point of view) and imperfect, capturing the genuine emotions and expressions of the moment. In terms of editing, focus on basic editing such as exposure, color balance, and contrast, while retaining the natural feel of the image. Your own children, or children in general, should never be retouched.

Ultimately, non-perfection and truthful, raw photography can create a meaningful and honest representation of a family's life, one that captures the emotions and dynamics that make them unique. These images can serve as a reminder of the beauty and imperfections of everyday life, and the importance of family in supporting and nurturing each other through it all.
