The lens frees my mind for the greater surroundings

Being an outdoor sports photographer (mountaineering, skiing, climbing) my requirements regarding my gear are strong and I can't accept any compromise. The cameras and lenses I climb with have to be lightweight, easy to handle, balanced and ready for the toughest conditions without any compromise on the image quality.

The first thing I look for when I use a combo is the ergonomics. It's essential. For obvious reasons, I don't have the luxury of thinking when I am on the field and my gear has to perform as a true extension of my hand. Everything has to sit under my fingers.

* The images without photograph data have been created with other lenses other than SIGMA 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary.

What I like about the fp L is its lightness, its balance and its modularity according to my needs on commissioned works, and the new 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary is a perfect fit to go with the fp L for my work.

With the 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary, I have a companion ready for any adventure. This combo is super compact, light and balanced, and once I put it around my neck I hardly feel it anymore. And that's a huge advantage when you're rope climbing.

The zoom ring is super smooth and firm, allowing to efficiently set the wanted focal length without second thought. Autofocus is blazing fast and its ability to use face/eye detection is a huge convenience when I'm up in the air.

Manual focus is also made super easy when I need it thanks to the firm focus ring. If there are three keywords for this lens, I would say―Fast, efficient, and secure.

Whether in low light during a bivouac at the end of an exhausting day or in front of full sunlight, the lens never let me down. It is a perfect companion you can always count on.

In my case, I bring the 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary and 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary with me. This combo from the Contemporary line allows me to make all my images, with the same quality I'm used to from the Art line I know very well.

A big THANK YOU to SIGMA for this wonderful experience for my rope climbing photographs and now I finally can climb light with dreamy combos that deliver highly anticipated lightweightness and compactness. And don't forget the outstanding image qualities beyond expectations!

about

Damien Largeron

Outdoor photographer

Born in the heart of the Chartreuse Mountains in France, grown up with skiing, mountain biking, climbing and hiking, I developed my love for outdoor sports, nature and wide-open spaces. Attracted since my youngest age by pictures, seeking to decipher and understand them, it is quite natural that I seized my first DSLR to capture the moments of climbing and sharing with friends. Creative, perfectionist and passionate, I do my best to bring back the best images of my adventures.
