A lens to remember beautiful landscapes

I work at a company that develops outdoor services, and I often climb and hike mountains all around the country.
Whenever I find myself face to face with nature’s overwhelming beauty, I feel the desire to etch the scenes before me into my memory for as long as possible. Photographs I take in those moments help me later to recall the views I have stored in my mind.
That is why I try to take photographs that capture what I see the way it appears to me, without modifications.

I love using the SIGMA fp with its kit lens, the SIGMA 45mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary, and when the time came to pick the next lens I contemplated my choice for a while.
In the end, I decided on the SIGMA 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN | Art, for its ability to faithfully depict natural landscapes.

With its clearly rendered images, free from distortions from corner to corner, and an almost life-like three-dimensionality thanks to the F2.8 aperture and its beautiful fore- and background bokeh, the memories I made in the midst of nature come rushing back to me anytime I take a look back during my daily life.

For star-filled skies

I often camp overnight in the high mountains of the Japanese Alps. Each time, I look forward to photographing the night sky and its infinite stars.
At such great heights – 3,000m and higher – temperatures are very low even during the summer months, meaning that you cannot move and act as freely as you would like.
Photographing at night, in pitch-black darkness, only adds further limits to one’s freedom of movement.
I appreciate what a tremendous advantage it is to be able to zoom freely and work out my favorite image compositions despite such unfavorable conditions.
I enjoyed photographing the starry sky in the temperature of minus 5 degrees Celsius in Raichouzawa in Tateyama, Toyama Prefecture, which was snowed in late November.

For hikes through the mountains

I try to keep my gear as light as possible during my visits to the mountains.
The full-frame DSLR Art line lens SIGMA 14-24mm F2.8 DG HSM | Art proved a little too heavy for me with its 1,150g. However, the newly redesigned SIGMA 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN | Art for use with mirrorless cameras constitutes a remarkable slim-down, weighing in at just 795g.
While this still puts it into the "heavy” category as an additional item to carry during hikes through the mountains, thanks to the lightness of the SIGMA fp’s body itself I almost don’t notice its weight at all when photographing.
I plan to take this lens with me on my future trips to capture and remember many more of the breathtaking views I am going to encounter.
