You can get even closer using the simultaneously released teleconverters
TC-1411(1.4X) and TC-2011(2.0X).
*The TC-1411 and the TC-2011 work only with the L-Mount.
The samples below are shot from the same position at 100mm, 250mm, and 400mm. They were shot with no teleconverter, with TC-1411(1.4X), and with TC-2011(2.0X). Shooting range is surprisingly broad and the image quality is stable throughout the zoom range.
The teleconverter is also effective for macro photography. This example was shot from the minimum focus distance (160cm) at the tele-end using the TC-2011(2.0X).
Product Description
The new 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary is newly designed exclusively for mirrorless cameras. It is shorter than the 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary (released in April 2017) with the MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 for Canon EF Mount on the left. Besides, a comparison of lens construction diagrams provides the utmost evidence of the brand new design.

With the SIGMA fp, the 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary shows how compact a telephoto system can be. The lens for comparison is the 60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports (released in October 2018).
The zoom ring incorporates a push/pull zoom mechanism just like the 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary、60-600mm F4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports does. The movie demonstrates how quickly and smoothly you can zoom in and out.
You can assign useful functions to the AFL button from the camera body, let alone AF locking. When shooting sports for example, you can keep your right hand just to fire the shutter saving your left hand to activate the AF.
Because telephoto photography often requires a tripod, the dedicated tripod socket (sold separately) is strongly recommended to secure the lens and the camera to the tripod while maintaining a good weight balance. To install the tripod socket, remove the rubber ring in front of the mount. This rubber ring not only smoothens up the appearance, but also protects the installation mechanism when the tripod socket is not installed. Additionally, the accompanying strap works to prevent the weight of the lens from putting too much burden on the mount while carrying it around.
* The tripod socket is the same as the one for the 105mm F1.4 DG HSM | Art. So if you already have it, you can continue to use it for the 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary.
A telephoto lens for mirrorless cameras for all subjects and situations
The precise rendition proves its best image quality in class. The autofocus powered by a stepping motor is fully compatible with the camera’s AF-C. Together with the SIGMA fp, it makes the smallest telephoto system ensuring maximum portability.
Magnesium is featured for the tripod socket attachment part to realize lightweight and durability. Its dust- and splash-proof structure lets you shoot with confidence in a variety of outdoor settings. This is an all-round telephoto lens for mirrorless cameras for all subjects and situations.
The 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary is the result of our uncompromising pursuit of high performance and a strong supporter for all photographers.
